Carpets of History
| The Gettysburg Carpet. This is a patch of carpet from the train car that President Abraham Lincoln rode in while writing the Gettysburg address. If you look closely you can see dandruff flakes from where Lincoln set his hat on the floor. | The Roosevelt Carpet. A patch of carpet that Teddy Roosevelt used to cushion his saddle during the charge on San Juan hill. This exhibit is sealed in a special air tight case due to a strange odor the patch seems to emit. | The Elizabeth Cady Stanton Carpet. A patch of the carpet that Elizabeth Cady Stanton was kneeling on when she realized that women everywhere were being mistreated. Close examination of this patch will reveal Cady Stanton's eyelashes and blotches of her makeup. | The Capone Carpet. This patch of carpet sat beneath the desk chair of Al Capone. It's even rumored that it was on top of this patch of carpet that Capone contracted syphillis from one of his prostitutes. You will be allowed to touch this patch and feel its texture, although SAM will not be held responsible for any side effects. | |||
The Roswell Carpet. National security prevents us from revealing more about this piece. |
The Beaver Carpet. Patch of carpet from the fifties television show Leave It To Beaver. This patch was owned by Hugh Beaumont and is on loan to the exhibit from the Ward Cleaver Was Jesus Foundation | The Monroe/Kennedy Carpet. This piece was taken from the carpet at the base of Marilyn Monroe's nightstand the morning after her death. Clearly seen on the patch is a foot print of an Italian loafer with the monogram RFK. | Oswald Carpet. Taken from the window from which Lee Harvey Oswald fired the shots that killed President John Fitzgerald Kennedy. This carpet, classified until recently, is conclusive evidence that Oswald killed the President | |||
Ray Carpet. Declassified shortly after the Oswald Carpet, this patch, taken from the hotel room James Earl Ray was in when he murdered Martin Luther King.
|
The Lovelace Carpet. Carpet from the set of the world's most famous adult film. It was on this patch where Linda Lovelace performed the action that husbands everywhere would beg their wifes to mimic. |
The Reagan Carpet. Taken from the Oval Office during Nancy Reagan's thirtieth redecoration of the White House. This patch, as some would say of Reagan himself, is nothing special.
|
The Lewinsky Carpet. Shown here under ultraviolet light.
